Abstract Design: Monochrome Photography in the Petrified Forest
June 18, 2016 @ 7:30 am - 12:00 pm
Instructor: David BeharDiscover the simple beauty of the natural design in monochromatic images of this ancient landscape. Among the fascinating backdrops of the Tepees, Blue Mesa and Crystal Forest, this workshop will introduce the participant to the concept of seeing things in a different way. Alter your vision to perceive abstract geometric and organic design within the natural environment. Through careful composition and exposure settings, you will transform the landscape into an abstract design consisting of shape and tonal values of light and dark. And yet, the image will retain the clear signature of its natural origin. Your images will be a record of a place and at the same time, an expression of pure design in vintage elegance. We will meet at the parks north Visitor Center, Interstate 40, exit 311, then proceed through the park to areas selected for their rich, multi-layered shapes and natural designs. These areas are seen at their optimum in the early to mid-day hours, when the eastern sun will be low and cast its light toward the western edge of the landscape. Elevate your landscape images into the world of abstract design. When we conclude the workshop you’ll have the remainder of the day to explore the park until closing. This workshop is best enjoyed by intermediate and advanced level users.
